Tonight was part 2 of Sean Hannity’s Interview with Rush Limbaugh in which they spoke about the Fairness Doctrine. My thought….old news Rush. Why? Because I wrote about this when it hit the mainstream on Feb 18, 2009. Rush correctly said that once the Fairness Doctrine went into effect it would result in Government Sponsored Airwaves (GSA). In short, the line goes this way.
- Government mandates equal time through the Fairness Doctrine
- Listeners leave because what they wanted to hear isn’t on the radio anymore or the new show times of their favorite shows do not align with their schedules.
- Listeners demographic changes and advertisers back out or find alternate venues for their niche
- Networks loose money and cannot stay afloat
- Since radio is now a GSA it must exist.
- The Government must subsidize radio for it to stay in “business”
- Government Sponsored Airwaves now exist with mandated quotas of state approved speech.
