Well, Kim Jong-Il is at it again and completed an underground nuclear test Sunday night EST (Monday Korean) that registered a 4.5 on the Richter scale according to S. Korean officials. Kim states that these tests are necessary to protect the interests and sovereignty of N. Korea.  What sovereignty does he want to protect?

  1. The sovereignty to treat the citizens of N. Korea as if they have no value and are seen as only employees of the state?
  2. The sovereignty to mismanage food distribution which makes it very difficult for its citizens to have enough food to eat?
  3. The sovereignty that compels its leader to oppress his country’s citizens with the threat of loss of life and public executions?

Kim Jong Il is a dictator and a tyrant who has nothing to lose because he has no regard for the consequences of any of his actions. Consider the fact that his domestic policies has resulted in a less than stellar energy grid. Here is night image of North Korea and the surrounding countries.

There is no innovation apart from what the North Korean government creates. There is no significant production to satisfy the needs of N. Korea’s citizens apart from the government wants to be produced.  North Korean citizens are viewed as employees and wards of the state. The citizens do not create businesses apart from the approval of the government.  Production of any kind must not only be approved by the government but the government must be seen by its citizenry as benevolent.

North Korea taunted the world and mainly the United States when it launched a “satellite” Taepo-dong 2 missile on April 5, 2009 a few hours before President Obama declared a global nuclear disarmament. Take a look and listen at Obama’s speech concerning this during his visit to Prague, Czech Republic.

Obama is being tested once again with Kim Jung il and he is going to have to make some tough choices.  Does Obama go in and destroy key military bases or will Obama attempt to rally the world community against North Korea.  North Korea doesn’t care because Kim thinks that Obama and the UN are just going to verbally castigate him like before. And just like any spoiled child where the threat of a parent is limited to words Kim is just going to go on with what he wants to do because he doesn’t care what anyone has to say. Listen to Obama’s words and remember that all that the world did was give Kim empty threats as his missile launched.

Read the Text.

What will Obama do this time?  There is no doubt that the last thing the world needs is a dictator who is willing to push the red button just to show the world that he can. Anytime a President has to decide that military action is needed in order to protect the interests of the United States is a decision that should not be made lightly.  However, decisions that protect our interests should be made in such a manner that the end result is, “what will it take for this to not happen again.”

JUST AN ASIDE QUESTION: Bush told us that the were weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) in Iraq but none were ever found.  All we heard was that Bush lied to the American people and that if there were WMDs then the Democrats would support the war.  Well, I am curious what would happen now since Kim is attempting to use WMDs?

What Say You?
