Obama’s Hypocrisy Of Blame

This past weekend our very own President attempted to throw America under the bus once again by apologizing for our misdeeds since July 4, 1776 at the 5th annual Summit of the Americas in Port of Spain.  Everywhere he goes it is the same old story,

“America is bad, real bad and I apologize for any harm that America directly or indirectly created to countries we may or may not have direct or indirect contact with.  There was a time when America was great, even though I cannot recall when and the world trusted us. As a result, we became arrogant and greedy. For this I apologize.   Although we attempted to rid the world of the likes of Hitler and Hussain while preserving the freedom of our own citizens we could have done better by showing mutual respect and healthy conversations. I apologize for America wanting to become more and more wealthy and free while other governments oppress their citizens through intimidation and nationalization. America has taunted the world with our view of freedom and equal rights. For that I apologize. I apologize for America not creating an open door immigration policy so that more citizens of the world can experience the American dream.  I apologize for the misdeeds that directly and indirectly affected the world’s economy.  In short, I apologize for having to take the time to apologize for our misdeeds because if America wasn’t so imperialistic this world would be a better place and I wouldn’t be here apologizing.

Here’s the hypocrisy of Obama’s blame.  President Obama, Barney Frank and Chris Dodd have blamed the American financial system for creating an opportunity for and thus a demand from noncredit worthy consumers for homes they could not afford. The consumer trusted the bankers because they saw bankers as responsible people who could be trusted and would only lend money to qualified applicants.  In short, the Democrats displaced blame from the consumer who freely entered into those mortgages onto the shoulders of the financial institutions who created the opportunity and thus a demand for easy home ownership.

Move on to last week and listen to his tirade concerning America’s involvement into the influx of drugs in America and the drug cartels in Mexico. Here are a few of Obama’s words:

But I will not pretend that this is Mexico’s responsibility alone. A demand for these drugs in the United States is what is helping to keep these cartels in business.
This war is being waged with guns purchased not here, but in the United States. More than 90% of the guns recovered in Mexico come from the United States, many from gun shops that line our shared border.

Let me summarize: Since drug lords and drug cartels can only exist when there is a demand for drugs then responsibility for the actions of the drug lords and drug cartels must fall on the consumer.  If there is no consumer, drug addict, then there can be no demand for drugs.  If there is no demand for drugs then there is no reason to grow and produce drugs. If there is no reason to grow and produce drugs then there is no need for drug cartels to go to war with each other to preserve their “business.”

In fact, let me let you read Obama’s words again but in light of the mortgage fiasco.

But I will not pretend that this is Fanny Mae and Freddy Mac’s responsibility alone. A demand for home ownership in the United States is what is helping to keep Fanny Mae and Freddy Mac in business.

If the reason that Felipe Calderón and his government cannot control the drug cartels and drug lords is because consumers are demanding their illegal products then it would seem then that those who are defaulting on their mortgages are sole responsible for the financial institutions giving bad loans.  Therefore, blame is not with the institution but with those who allowed the institution to exist because of their patronage. Am I wrong?

So how can blame and responsibility be adjudicated in Obama’s mind? When any system fails are those who freely enter into that system at fault for the failure or is the fault given to the enterprise that created the system? In America, Obama blames the finacial system for not being regulated enough to enssure that individuals have a fair chance to benefit from financial benefits such as home ownership.  In Trinidad and everywhere else outside our borders Obama blames the individual American citizen for the wrongs of the world.  One thing we can be sure about Obama and the world’s problems…He is going to blame either the American citizen for having too much power or the government for not having enough.
