Who does Barney Frank and Charles Schumer think they are going after the employees of AIG? What did those employees do? What law did they break that the Government has to get involved with them? The Government’s fall guy, Edward Liddy AIG CEO, was called before a congress today to speak about the retention bonuses that AIG handed out. Over and over each representative took a jab at Liddy for those bonuses. Even after Liddy read death threats aloud to congress that the employees were receiving, Barney Frank demanded that he get a list of those employee’s names.
Forget about the fact that Chris Dodd wrote in the Stimulus Bill that allows for said bonuses and must be honored “for contractually obligated bonuses agreed on before Feb. 11, 2009.” Forget about the fact that AIG notified the Government about the bonuses. Forget about the fact that Obama and Tim knew about the bonuses and still attempted to incite a riot with the American people such that death threats were sent to the tune of, “I hope you die by piano wire.” Forget about the fact that the Democrats played down earmarks saying that it was only 2% of the total Stimulus Bill and that AIG bonuses are about 1% of 1% of the Stimulus Bill. Forget about the fact that Connecticut law (Connecticut Wage Act) states that those bonuses have to be paid and if not can be sued up to 2x the amount. (BTY: If this law didn’t apply to AIG then Atty. Gen. Richard Blumenthal and law makers would not attempt to change the law for future companies.) Forget about the fact that Freddie Mac is getting retention bonuses also and no one is bringing them before congress
Forgetting all of these things Barney Frank says he wants the names of each of the employees who received those bonuses. (To make them public no less.) “NAMES, I WANT NAMES or I’m going to subpoena them!” Where did America go that it will search out people that did no wrong or break any law? Oh, I guess you could say that they are recipients of a financial plan that went wrong. You could say that those employees are recipients of laundered money. You know…Federal Government steals the money from the American Tax Payer and sends it through AIG into the hands of the employees.
Why is it that we don’t hear an uproar about this? WHERE ARE ALL THE FOLKS THAT CREATED THE brouhaha about the wire tapping, patriot act, anything else that infringed on the rights of those who may kill American Citizens. But you know what the Government does, “We won’t protect the rights and names of the AIG employees but we won’t go after those who wrote those death threats.”
And what did Sen. Charles Schumer (D., N.Y.) plan to do a few days ago: (UPDATE: they did)
“My colleagues and I are sending a letter to [AIG CEO Edward] Liddy informing him that he can go right ahead and tell the employees that are scheduled to get bonuses that they should voluntarily return them,” Sen. Charles Schumer said on the Senate floor. “Because if they don’t [give back those bonuses], we plan to tax virtually all of [the money] … so it is returned to its rightful owners, the taxpayers.”
“If you don’t return it on your own, we will do it for you.”
So let me get this straight, the Government is now in the business of creating laws to create profits for themselves (aka Stimulus Bill) and when those laws don’t work out so well it is okay for them to strong arm people to get what they want? If this doesn’t incite more class warfare, I don’t know what would. Here you have ivory tower representatives creating laws and then accusing those who abide by those laws as immoral for following them.
The middle class and poor really like the idea of the Government strong arming the rich that have gotten a disproportionate amount of the wealth because it makes them feel better. But like relationships that go bad. The woman who married the man because he was a renegade of sorts and lived life on his own terms by disrespecting the law will soon turn on her and his own family. It is going to be only a matter of time before the very power that those who voted for Obama are going to see a Commander and Chief turn on them.
