Obama showed his face down in Florida on video tape in front of about 100 AFL-CIO union leaders to assure them that the Employee Free Choice Act would pass this year. Funny how it is called the “Employee Free Choice Act” when the truth of the matter is that the only freedom it preserves is the freedom of Union Bosses to bully nonunion workers into submission. (It is also known as Card Check – now what’s so private and free about someone checking what you are doing?)
What of the “Free Choice” act does is take away the secret ballot when employees are voting to becoming unionized or not. Short and sweet here. The secret ballot is one of our stalwart values of our republic that preserves the freedom to choose and the right to have private thoughts. Obama supports a woman’s right to “privacy” but not the right to vote with a secret ballot. Words cannot describe . . . ..
I shutter at the thought that the President of the United States would support any institution that would strip away the right of the freedom of speech that the American Constitution bestows on it’s citizens. For those who may disagree let me ask you this:
- Can freedom of speech exist if a government or a governing body (GoGB) says that you can say anything you want but we may cause you harm if your speech offends them?
- Can freedom to choose exist if a government or a governing body (GoGB) limits choices through regulations?
- Can freedom of privacy exist if a government or a governing body (GoGB) compels you to make choices through force pertaining to physical harm, economic harm, or social harm?
It is one thing for the President of the United States to attempt to influence through words the citizens that he represents to adhere to his political ideals. It is far different for the President to pass bills that force people to join unions that support political politicies they may not normally vote for.
Last note on what I meant by “cause you harm.” I don’t mean physical harm but economic harm. Consider this. Let’s say that I am an employee and a vote is coming up to unionize. I don’t want to unionize but there is a subset of employees that do. If these empoyees are managers and the like then what do you think they could do to “nudge” me along to vote for the union. They could “force” me through work schedule, income, social rejection, and the like.
Now you tell me. Do you think that this is an option that the President of the United States who was elected by a secret ballot espouse? I think not.
Take a look at this interview with Rep. John Kline (R-MN) on this very topic.

I say we should kill the unions. It’s nothing but socialism in the workplace. I’ve never been in a union, and life is pretty good. Besides, if I ever buy a new car, killing the union means cheaper prices for me.
